I am a Ph.D. student at the Hamburg University and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and freelance historian. I work on issues of the contemporary Magreb and the Middle East, including projects on national identity, popular movements, and democratisation, with special interest on the region’s history through the lens of present politics. I am a frequent traveler of the region and have conducted various filed research and interview projects in the area.
Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. thesis on the historical contextualisation of the Obama administration’s Middle Eastern policy as seen from the region’s public intellectuals. Follow this link for a detailed description of the project.
