I am a Ph.D. candidate 2016-12-09-151548-dscf7717-final-cropat Hamburg University and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) . I work on issues of the contemporary Magreb and the Middle East, including projects on national identity, popular movements, and democratisation, with special interest on the region’s history through the lens of present politics. I am a frequent traveler of the region and involved in conducting local research projects.

Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. thesis on the on the the rhetorical, historical, and linguistic contextualisation of President Barack Obama’s idea of a ‘new beginning’ in the U.S.-Middle Eastern relationship.
